Darlene Mae Richardson Langrudi, 67, of Watha, North Carolina, died on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at New Hanover Memorial Hospital.
Darlene grew up in Elk Park before moving to Holly Ridge, NC to continue running the family business.
In Holly Ridge, Darlene raised her two children with her husband while she was an entrepreneur in a convenience store and motel. She and her husband were the founders, owners and operators of Best Buy Mini Mart (Holly Ridge) and SeaScape Motel (Surf City).
Darlene loved to paint. Most of his work was oil paintings of scenes from nature. Its creative and artistic side is said to be the reason the motel gets its name. She gave it an appropriate name for her passion for painting and location, SeaScape Motel.
Over the years Darlene came to love farm life after TL bought land he was considering starting a small family farm with a few animals. In 2002, after frequenting the farm and getting close to a new hobby, she moved from Holly Ridge to Watha. She enjoyed spending time tending to the farm and soon devoted herself to spinning, yarn making and soon to handcrafts using animal fibers from their cattle.
Darlene is survived by her husband of 48 years, TL Langrudi; her two children, Channing Langrudi of Hampstead, NC (and Crystal Langrudi Durham) of Wilmington, NC. She had a grandchild, Hope. She is also survived by two sisters, Connie Richardson Stout and Ella Richardson Freeman (Jimmy), and her beloved Morkie Bella. She was predeceased by her father William Ray Richardson, mother Essie Shell Richardson and sister Barbara Kay Calhoun.
Memorial services are scheduled for spring 2022, which will take place at Elk Park.
