Next weekend, Cranbrook Arts will finally open the doors of its brand new gallery to the public with its inaugural exhibition, Kootenay’s Best.
This exhibition has been in the works for several months and will feature the work of over 50 emerging and established artists from across the Kootenay region. Works on display include oil paintings, watercolors, acrylics, mixed media, woodcarvings, photographs and more.
The exhibition opens Friday, June 18 and runs through Labor Day weekend. The gallery will be open every Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., located at 1401 5th St N.
“We are delighted not only to share the work of these incredibly talented artists, but also to welcome audiences to our new space after many years of hard work,” Cranbrook Arts said in a press release. “To see the gallery come together after all this time is fantastic. 1401 is a place where artists can express themselves, where children can learn and explore the arts, and where the community can come together to be part of a culturally rich and creative experience.
Cranbrook Arts purchased the building at 1401 in 2019. Since then it has undergone extensive renovations and now houses a professional gallery, workshop, pottery studio and printmaking studio.
“We hope the community enjoys this exhibit and takes advantage of this artistic hub in the community,” said Cranbrook Arts. “Thank you to all of our volunteers, donors and artists for making this possible. “
Cranbrook Arts will not be hosting an opening night due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, they plan to hold an event closer to the end of the show when the restrictions could be relaxed. Until then, the entire Cranbrook Arts team invites you to take the time to appreciate some of the best works of art the Kootenays have to offer and browse the gallery at 1401. There is no charge. admission, but donations are gratefully accepted.
